The Lower Elementary Curriculum is a detailed expansion of the Casa Curriculum. This program largely reflects a research style of learning as elementary children work in small groups on a variety of projects, which spark the imagination and engage the intellect. The Montessori system is a self motivating program. The students work at their own pace and can cover materials not always offered to them in other environments where they may be limited by grade or age. In a proper Montessori environment a child must have the full understanding of a concept or material before he/she is permitted to move onto the next level. This guarantees his/her learning success.

DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CULTURAL CONNECTION

Activities including gardening, physical education and cooking are incorporated into the program to develop students’ reasoning abilities and encourage their questioning minds. Children, at this age, are driven to understand the universe and their place in it. Their capacity to assimilate all aspects of culture is boundless. This program ensures elementary academics including: Geography, Biology, History, Language, and Mathematics in all its branches, Science, Music and Art. Exploration of each area is encouraged through trips outside of the classroom in the community such as a library, planetarium, botanical garden, science centre, factory, hospital, etc. This inclusive approach to education fosters a feeling of connectedness to all humanity and encourages their natural desire to make contributions to the world.
