TITLE

DESCRIPTION

Curriculum content is available in the form of Montessori equipment, displays and reading materials. Through hands on experience, each child develops skills and awareness at his or her own pace. He or she progresses through an ordered series of learning activities presented in Montessori didactic materials that cover all aspects of the educational curriculum. The curriculum goal is to allow the child to begin with the broadest context possible. This context becomes the framework for exploring parts within the whole. Curriculum subject areas include: Language, Mathematics, French, Culture Studies, Music, Art, Physical Education, and Practical Life.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

School year programs operate from the first Tuesday in September through to the end of June. We also offer summer programs from the second week in July through to the third week in August.

All programs include extra-curricular instruction in French, Music, Swimming, Physical Education and Computer Skills.

EXTRA-CURRICULARS

FRENCH

Students in the Casa program learn French during circle time. They are introduced to numbers, letters and some day to day phrases. For example how to introduce themselves, how to ask about the weather and so on.

MUSIC

The music teacher comes to the school to provide lessons about tone, rhythm, scales, simple songs and practice for the Christmas concert.

SWIMMING

Each year the children participate in swimming lessons at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre for eight weeks. At the end they are awarded a certificate for the level that they reach.

PHYS-ED

Our school partners with the YMCA so the children can participate in guided physical activity. The program runs depending on the schedule of the school and the YMCA.

COMPUTER SKILLS

The instructor helps the children (Casa Studies) to become familiar with computers showing how they start it, use the mouse and operate games that relate to what they are learning in the classroom, investing their school time in the right way.

FIELD TRIPS

The school arranges field trips that relate to the themes of learning including visits to the museum, local farms, the zoo, local fire hall and other sites to show the children what they learn in the classroom. The parent can attend these trips also. Usually the transportation is by school bus.
